Oklahoma's "New Deal Centennial" Planning Symposium
March 27 & 28, 2025
Join us at the Museum of the Great Plains in March, as we continue planning for Oklahoma’s New Deal Centennial in 2033! The centennial will honor the 100th anniversary of federal programs that transformed the state and country. Be a part of the conversation, as we explore how to commemorate this pivotal moment in American history.
The event, beginning at 9:00 on Thursday, March 27, will feature speakers from across Oklahoma. Discussion will highlight important New Deal projects - and related historical preservation efforts today. Then at 5:00, be our guest for a free community barbecue and concert at Ron Stephens Stadium, 1400 NW Dearborn Ave. The stadium itself is a New Deal (WPA) project, completed in 1936.
On the second day, at 9:00 on March 28, a group tour will commence from the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center. The refuge is a 59,000 acre wilderness area first designated in 1901. Afterward, the symposium will end with lunch on your own in the unique cobblestone getaway of Medicine Park.
